Playmaker vs CourtDraw
With Playmaker a coach can send an animated play to the whole team as a link: free, no account, nothing to install. CourtDraw is the closest rival we have, and on its free tier that link and that animation are both Pro. Here is everything else, both ways.
We make one of these. Playmaker is our own product, so read this the way you would read any vendor's comparison. What we can offer instead of neutrality is checkable: every figure below was read off the other tool's own pages on , those pages are linked at the foot of this one, and anything we could not verify says so instead of carrying a number.
The closest comparison on the site
CourtDraw is the tool that looks most like us, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. It runs in a browser with nothing to download. Its board opens with no account. It works on a phone, a tablet and a laptop, and it installs to a home screen like an app. Its free tier keeps three saved plays, which is our number too. And its paid plan is €6 a month, which is our $6 in a different currency.
It is also bigger than us in the most obvious way: CourtDraw draws 38+ sports and we draw eight. Our eight are soccer, basketball, American football, field hockey, rugby, netball, baseball and volleyball, each drawn to scale with its own markings. If your sport is not on that list — tennis, handball, futsal, ice hockey and a long tail of others — CourtDraw has a court for it and we do not. That is the first thing to check, and for some coaches it settles the question before anything else on this page matters.
Where the free tiers part company
Both of us give away the drawing. What happens after the drawing is where we differ, and it is the reason this page exists. Read off CourtDraw's own plan cards on 8 November 2026:
- Playback is Pro. CourtDraw's phase animation, up to five phases with animated playback, is on the Pro plan. On the free plan you draw a static diagram. When we tried the free board on 7 November and pressed Play, it said "Pro Feature: Animated Playback". Playmaker animates every play on the free tier, with no account.
- Share links are Pro. CourtDraw's Pro plan lists "shareable board links"; the free plan shares a PNG with a courtdraw.app watermark, which you send through a messaging app. Ours: draw the play, copy the link, send it to the group chat, and every player who opens it watches the runs and passes play back on their own phone. No app, no login, on our side or theirs.
- One court on free. CourtDraw's free plan gives you one court of your choice; the other courts carry a Pro lock. Our free tier draws all eight of our sports.
None of that is a criticism of how CourtDraw chooses to make its money. It is a perfectly reasonable line to draw. It is just a different line from ours, and if the thing you need is to get an animated play in front of fifteen players tonight without paying, it is the line that decides it.
Where your plays live
CourtDraw's FAQ says free and Pro tactics are saved in your browser's local storage, on your device. That is fast, it works offline, and it means nothing leaves your phone. It also means the plays are on the device you drew them on.
A Playmaker play lives in its link, so a new phone or tablet loses nothing: open the link anywhere and the play is there. A free account keeps three saved plays on our servers, and Pro keeps unlimited.
How they compare
Read off each vendor's own page on 8 November 2026. CourtDraw's prices are in euros and its page says they are "excl. VAT". Its Pro card says annual billing saves 32% but does not print the annual figure, so we do not either.
| Tool | Sports | Free tier | Paid | Animation and sharing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PlaymakerThis is us | Eight sports, including basketball | Unlimited plays drawn, animated and shared by link with no account at all; 3 saved plays per free account | $6/month or $50/year USD | Animated playback and share links free; PNG, printable PDF, GIF and MP4, watermarked on free and clean on Pro |

What CourtDraw does that we do not
Sports. 38+ against eight. This is the biggest gap and we are not going to close it soon.
A community library across twelve sports. CourtDraw's page describes 200+ community plays across 12 sports that a free user can browse and load in one click. We publish formation and set-piece templates for our own sports, but nothing written by other coaches.
Drawing on match footage. CourtDraw's Pro plan includes video and photo overlay, so you can draw over a frame of your own game. We have no video overlay.
A club plan you can buy today. €99 a year for up to ten coaching seats with a shared tactic library, custom team colours and branded PDF export — CourtDraw's own sum is €10 per coach per year. We have no team plan on sale yet.
What we do that CourtDraw does not, on the free tier
The play animates for free, and it travels in a link. That is the headline, and it is why the comparison is worth reading at all.
Every sport we draw is free. You do not choose a court once and pay for the others.
Exports beyond a PNG. On our free tier you get PNG, printable PDF, GIF and MP4, each with a watermark that Pro removes.
Who should use which
If your sport is one we do not draw, use CourtDraw. Nothing on this page outweighs not having a court for the game you coach.
If you run a club with several coaches and want one shared library on one bill, CourtDraw's Club plan exists and ours does not yet.
If you coach basketball, soccer, football or any of our eight, and the job is getting an animated play to your players without paying anybody, start with the basketball play designer or whichever sport you coach. It is free, the link is free, and you can find out in a minute whether it suits you.
Try the free one first
It opens on a real basketball pitch, there is nothing to install, and you do not need an account to draw a play and send it to your team as a link.

How much does CourtDraw cost?
On its own page on 8 November 2026: free for one court, €6 a month for Pro, and €99 a year for a Club plan with up to ten coaches, all excluding VAT. The Pro card says annual billing saves 32 percent but does not print the annual price. Pro and Club each come with a seven day trial, and the FAQ says a card is needed to start it.
Is CourtDraw free?
It has a free tier with no account: one court of your choice, all nine drawing tools, three saved plays, and a PNG export with a watermark. Animated playback and shareable links are on the Pro plan.
How many sports does CourtDraw cover compared with Playmaker?
CourtDraw lists 38 or more sports courts. Playmaker draws eight: soccer, basketball, American football, field hockey, rugby, netball, baseball and volleyball. If your sport is outside our eight, CourtDraw is the better choice.
Can I share a CourtDraw play with my team for free?
You can share a watermarked PNG image for free. A shareable board link is a Pro feature. In Playmaker, sharing an animated play by link is free and needs no account, for you or for the players who open it.
Do CourtDraw plays move to a new phone?
CourtDraw says free and Pro tactics are saved in your browser's local storage on your device. A Playmaker play lives in its link, so opening that link on a new phone or tablet shows the play.
