About this play

The signature play of Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers, who won five NFL championships between 1961 and 1967 running it. Both guards, Jerry Kramer and Fuzzy Thurston in its best years, pull and lead round the strong side; the centre blocks back to cover the gap, the tight end and flanker seal inside, and the fullback takes the end. The halfback, Paul Hornung or Jim Taylor, follows the guards and cuts wherever the seal opens, which Lombardi called running to daylight. Everyone knew it was coming; it worked because every block was rehearsed until it could not fail.
