About this play

The winning goal of the 2002 Champions League final at Hampden Park, Glasgow, which Real Madrid won 2-1 against Bayer Leverkusen. Santiago Solari plays the ball down the left for Roberto Carlos, whose high, looping cross drops to Zinedine Zidane on the edge of the penalty area. Zidane meets it on the volley with his weaker left foot and it goes in off the underside of the bar. The cross was not a good one; the finish is why the goal is remembered.
