About this play
The most reliable open-play goal in hockey. A winger takes the ball down the right, beats the defender to the back line and pulls it back across the circle to a striker arriving at the penalty spot. A pass from the back line is the hardest for a goalkeeper to cover, because they have to move across the goal as the striker shoots, and the defenders are turned to face their own goal as they track back.
